Dokumentindhold

I returned last night, at last, from Portugal. The
first thing I did to-day was go to the National City Bank
of N.Y.C. After keeping me waiting for 40 minutes
the bank official I had gone to see about your not
having the money come, blushed, inundated me
with apologies etc. etc. ad nauseam! They had not
sent it, & was in an envelope marked - "To be
picked up by A. Köpcke, c/o Handels Bank, Copenhagen
Denmark"!!! I was furious and made a dreadful
scene I'm afraid. I'm terribly upset about it
still. It's all their negligence and I hope sincerely
you will forgive me - The envelope has the
date 22nd Spt Sept. writen on it with their
idiotic notation. I'm truly sorry to be the cause
of worry to you but I thought I'd done every-
thing absolutly in order and did. I can only apoligize
and beg you to understand this flaw. The money, so
they've told me is being mailed to you this afternoon.
Tomorrow I'll double check and continue to do so

until you have it. In the meantime on receiving
the money and not before, please ship me the painting
as we agreed. I'm withdrawing my account
at this Bank as I do not trust them and their
unforgivable incompetent manner of handeling
their clients affairs -
Our trip did us good - altho I found the
Portuguese the most triest [?] people. I'm fed up with
their bad food & swarming flies not to mention
other insects! It's good to be in Paris and I hope
to start to work on my graveur tomorrow. I
have 9 large plates underway and several
smaller ones. I hope you & the Gallery are
flourishing and again - I beg your pardon
for this grave error on the part of the Bank.
Do let me know instantly when you get the
money as I shall be pestering them until I do.
I hope too my gouaches will arrive "safe and sound"
as soon as possible - My best regards -

Humbally Yours
